
Alexandre N Armaputra is a cellist from Yogyakarta who began his professional music career before he finished his academic studies and has had the opportunity to perform in various countries, including Japan, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and Indonesia. He has also played with several major orchestras in Indonesia, such as the Twilite Orchestra, the Jakarta Concert Orchestra, the Bandung Philharmonic, the Jakarta City Philharmonic, the Magenta Orchestra, the Jakarta Sinfonietta, and the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra. He has also had the opportunity to participate in recording sessions for film scorings, singles, and albums for singers and musical theater productions.
He’s deeply passionate about chamber music, having recently performed a recital with The Openstring Quartet in Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya. They have also collaborated with Leslie Tan, a former member of the T’ang Quartet and a professor of cello and chamber music at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, Singapore.
Alexandre holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Yogyakarta Art Institute of Indonesia and has studied with renowned teachers such as Brigida Berta, Budi Kartono, Budhi Ngurah, and Asep Hidayat. He has also attended masterclasses with world-class cellists such as Caroline Kang, Leslie Tan, Jose Miguel, Hee-Young Lim, Jeroen den Herder, and Joachim Eijlander. In addition to his studies and performances, he also had the opportunity to attend the Zutphen Cello Academy in Zutphen, the Netherlands.
He has held leadership positions in several orchestras, including associate principal cellist at the Jakarta City Philharmonic, co-principal cellist at the Twilite Orchestra and the Jakarta Concert Orchestra and currently he holds the position of principal cellist at the Bandung Philharmonic and the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra. He is also a former Principal Cellist at the Indonesian Youth Symphony Orchestra, an orchestral academy program under the baton of Maestro Kanako Abe.
Presently, he is fulfilling the role of mentor for the cello section within the University of Indonesia’s student orchestra.
