As a solo pianist, chamber musician, and educator, Carla Suharto combines the best of technicality and showmanship. On the piano, she possesses the emotional range and passionate force required to communicate the universality of music for the modern audience.
Indonesian by birth, Carla received a full scholarship to study under Iswargia Sudarno at Pelita Harapan University. After graduating summa cum laude in 2014, she continued her studies at Folkwang Universität der Künste in Germany. Under the guidance of Professor Thomas Günther and Yannick Rafalimanana, Carla received her Master’s Degree in Professional Performance in 2018.
Carla’s professional journey includes participation in numerous summer festivals, such as the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, where she trained under Professor Robert Levin. Then, she also joined the Asia International Piano Academy Festival in Seoul and the Worms Summer Class. During the latter, she was under the guidance of Professors Manfred Aust and Anton Scherrer. Recently, Carla had the honor to perform at the Gala Concert at Folkwang Duisburg, where she had learned from Imogen Cooper. She is currently a member of the well-established group, Jakarta Trio.
Carla’s repertoire as a soloist and accompanist is extensive, encompassing multiple musical periods from Baroque to Modern. In recent years, she has performed them in some of the most prestigious recital and concert halls throughout Germany and Indonesia: Museum Folkwang, Erasmus Huis, Goethe Haus Jakarta, Istituto Italiano Jakarta, Balai Resital Kertanegara, Pelita Harapan University, Padma Ubud and Legian Hotels, as well as IFI Bandung and Yogyakarta.
Some of the awards Carla has won include the 2014 Gold Prize in Asia International Piano Academy Festival in Busan, South Korea and the Yamaha Scholarship for the same year.
Aside from performing, Carla also expresses her passion for music through teaching. Currently, she is a faculty member at Pelita Harapan University and Jakarta Conservatory of Music.
